Growing, Harvesting and Selection
Since many ingredients used in vitamins and nutrients are natural products such as herbs, they are of course grown. A quality nutritional company should be fully vested and involved in the growing, harvesting and selection process.
This involves making sure that the correct percentage of the active ingredient is obtained, the correct part of the plant is used, and even the correct plant is used. This last point might seem like a “no-brainer”, but there have been instances a lot of counterfeit products flooding the nutritional market.
Due to growing and harvesting methods of a plant, mineral content can vary by over 900%, likewise its phytochemical nutrients can range from very potent to virtually inactive.
A quality nutritional company should be fully active in this process due to the fact that in sourcing raw materials, a nutrient wholesaler can provide a Certificate of Analysis that does not tell the whole story, thus leaving the door open for inadequate and sometimes dangerous product.

Genetically modified foods (GMO) have flooded our grocery stores and our kitchen tables. Regulations that govern them continue to become looser and looser, with many fingers pointing at the almighty dollar.
An interesting article has come out of the United Kingdom that the Bio Tech giant Monsanto (one of the worlds largest, if not the largest producer of GMO foods) will be eating only non-genetically modified products on their lunch breaks. Foods containing genetically modified soy and corn are no longer available in the company cafeteria.
”Granada Food Serfices, which manages the canteen, is said to be concerned about health risks.”
Monsanto’s press department contends the action was not the result of a boycott initiated by worried employees of the company.
Now, what does this say to you about GMO?? Maybe its time to bring real food back into the kitchen.

I dont know if anyone caught this news release this weekend, but it has just been released that the united states is dropping in life expectancy, now behind 41 other countries.
”Somethings wrong here when one of the richest countries in the world, the one that spends the most on health care, is not able to keep up with other countries,” said Dr. Christopher Murray, head of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.
Andorra, a tiny country in the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain, had the longest life expectaany, at 83.5 years followed by Japan, Macau, San Marino and Singapore. The United States average is at 77.9 years for a baby born in 2004.
As you will see in our book Health Warrior, Secrets to Conquering the Inner Game of Health, there is a lot of factors at play here, and no we do not feel its due to lack of health insurance (thank you Michael Moore)
Our own medical system is at fault for unecessary deaths, as well as our industrialized diet, saturated toxic environments and so much more…
Folks, we dont want you to worry about statistics, though at the same time, nor do we want you to become one. Its time we empower ourselves with all the knowledge and resources we have to live a life of extraordiary health.

An interesting tid bit of information. We just read an article on how the FDA will be requiring much more restrict guidelines on nutritional supplements.
The article also went on to say that they will be targeting companies of 20 or less employees.
Two ways to look at it.
Many of the comments were of a “witch hunt” mentality upon the nutritional industry.
Another way to look at it is that the FDA is actually doing something good for the nutritional industry in requiring quality products to be produced and holding people accoutable, if no quality, product doesnt hit the shelves.
This was done for the homeopathic industry, and I think it had a lot to do with bringing them back from their early 1920’s demise.
We only carry pharmaceutical grade nutrients and thats all anyone should consume. You are being assured through assay’s that the products are safe and effective and are free of impurities such as heavy metals, pcb’s, bacteria, etc. Many of our companies (if not all) have over 20 employees (not to say companies with less than 20 employees are bad)
If the over/under 20 rule is correct, than my feeling is that a lot of really bad companies, like the ones who make bulk repackaging versions for the giant retailers of the world, multi level marketers with sub par standards, etc will fall through the cracks, maybe such cracks made larger by the FDA?
All we can do is to recommend to buy from us (ha ha) but really, this will ensure you are getting a quality and effective product.

A study just recently published out of Britain has linked a connection between obesity and dementia. The article makes comment of an obestiy explosion in Britain (once again taking on Americas bad habits) and the root of it being a fondness for fast food and reistance to excercise. They continue to make note that people overweight at the age of 60 are twice as likely to get dementia at 75.The article states that the mecanism of how obestiy affets the brain was unclear but it encompassed diet, excercise and physiological effects. Research has shown that people who eat a diet rich in fruit and vegetables have an up to 40 percent reduced risk of developing dementia, and excercise as a similar effect.
Aside form this article, numerous studies have linked free radical attack to dementia. What is a good source of anti-oxidants (the good guy’s who quell damaging free radicals)? Fruits and Vegetables. Most people who consume a diet high in vegetables and fruits dont have a weight problem either. So we can assume that diet, excercise and supplentation might be the link.
If you would like a measurement of your oxidative stress, make an appointment at HAPPY for a biophotonic scan, and if you are looking for a nutrient that has been known to quell every free radical known to man, a true anti aging supplement—-we have that too.

There should be no molecular manipulation from the products natural state.
In some cases molecular manipulation might provide a benefit, such as removing toxins out of a product such as fish oil through molecular distillation. In all cases if you can find a product that begins with the purest of qualities, thus the need for molecular distillation is much less.
Another example of molecular manipulation that we have seen is with red yeast rice. The manufactures have changed the molecular structure to make more potent. This we do not recommend, it is out of its natural food based state and increase issues such as metabolism through liver might present themselves. In this case find pharmaceutical grade whole food source.

A new long-term animal test from the Italian cancer institute fortifies the questions on the safety of aspartame. The FDA is being requested to immediately review this study which found increases in lymphomas, leukemias, and breast cancers in rats.
Now, to know that aspartame is already responsible for the most complaints to the FDA, we can only hope that a controlled study will shut off their pockets from the food industry.
Via the works of Dr Russell Blaylock, Dr HJ Roberts, and countless other practititioners and consumers, it is quite apparent of the harm that this simple sweetner can do.
Whether the FDA decides to do anything about it, we as consumers can make the decision and stop buying it. After all, most people who stop diet soda’s with aspartame in it end up loosing weight as a result. Not to mention the deleterious effects on our health that it can have.
Lastly, read your ingredients, it is everwhere, gumm, candy, juice, etc—and please avoid sucralose as well—-more on that later–

To continue our posts on finding a quality vitamin and nutrient we are going to go over a number of critical factors that you can use to judge the company for yourself.
The nutritional company should optimally be a primary manufacturer, not a re-packager. This means that they will source, manufacturer, store and ship their own products rather than farming this work out to another company(s).
Granted there are some very good nutritional companies who have other companies do this for them, sometimes just a few products and sometimes most of their line. Reasons could be cost effectiveness, ability to produce a large amount of end product, or unique propriety technology or ingredient that only the manufacturer is privy to, thus licenses it out.
We utilize companies who for instance have a quality ingredient grown for them and then have another company produce it for them under their strict guidelines.
The problem can come when the strict guidelines are not monitored or followed. When utilizing a primary manufacturer you are dealing with a company who is responsible for all of the sourcing and testing of product, therefore has much more control over quality and control issues. If they are a reputable company this is just one extra insurance policy a consumer can take.

If you are reading this then chances are that you have an interest in vitamins and nutrients. Maybe you take them regularly and have done so for a very long time. Maybe you are a “newbie”, have been education yourself on the in’s and out’s or maybe you are thinking, “should I be taking vitamins?’
The nutritional industry is a multibillion dollar industry and while very profitable, the truth of the matter is that it could crumble tomorrow.
Why do I say that? For as gigantic as a revenue machine that it is, the industry at large puts put a product that in many cases has not proved to be safe or effective or both.
Will it crumble tomorrow? I doubt it. Mostly because that there are very few regulations holding manufactures accountable for the products that they create.
Looking for a silver lining? You’re in luck! There is one!
There are some great companies putting out products that are both safe and effective, and many times can offer the body what no prescription drug can do.
Let us start with a little R & R (rules and regulations)
At the time of this writing what is needed for a company to market and produce nutritional products is:
(1) Keeping master batch records.
(2) Retaining sampling and lot traceability.
That’s it! Leaves a little bit of room for some misgivings, don’t you think?
I said, at the time of writing because there is a lot of legislation being proposed to change the back bone of the nutritional industry, some good, and some bad.
As you read on just a bit further you will learn what makes a stellar product, what makes a good product and what makes a down right crappy product.
Nutritional Supplements are divided into four quality categories:
1. Pharmaceutical grade- This grade meets the highest regulatory requirements for purity, dissolution, and absorption. There is outside verification as to the quality.
2. Medical grade- This grade is a high-grade product. Prenatal vitamins usually fit into this category.
3. Cosmetic, Nutritional grade- Supplements of this grade may be sold in some health food stores, grocery and mass retailers. These often are not tested for purity, dissolution, or absorption and may not have a high concentration of the active ingredient they are labeled as.
4. Feed or agricultural grade- Supplements of this grade area used for veterinary purposes. Do not take supplements of this grade.
Without a doubt, you should be consuming only pharmaceutical grade nutrients. Below I have outlined In addition to the basic 2 regulations mentioned above, the additional regulatory processes that should be done for a pharmaceutical grade nutrients.
(3)Validation of documentation.
(4)Analytical testing on raw materials,
(5)Analytical testing of finished product.
(6)Shelf life and stability testing.
These additional qualifications are used to ensure a consistent product with adequate absorption and dissolution as well as being free of contaminants and harmful ingredients.
Now there is a curve ball thrown in to the pharmaceutical grade mix. “Pharmaceutical grade” has become a catch word as of late and within the realm has fostered charlotten run companies with the marketing buzz of pharmaceutical grade. Over the next few blog posts we will be looking in a bit deeper to see what other information you can use to ensure a quality nutrient.R-n-A
