Natural Alternatives for Herpes, I and II

Natural Alternatives for Herpes

Herpes Simplex is believed to affect over 50% of the American adult population, with the majority of individuals not even aware that they have it. Symptoms of a herpes outbreak are tingling, burning and itching of the affected area.  More severe symptoms are swollen glands, headaches, fatigue, muscle soreness or fever.  In the case of genital herpes, burning on urination can be present.
There are two types of herpes simplex viruses: type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). The herpes viruses is spread through physical contact and released from the sores that the virus causes, although the virus can also be released between outbreaks from normal-appearing skin.  It is believed that as much as 70% of herpes cases are spread when there are no signs of infection, a surprising fact indeed.
Type 1 is usually found above the waist, such as cold sores on the lip and mouth area.  Type 2 is usually found below the waist, known as genital herpes.  These are not absolute rules though; type 1 can present as genital herpes and type 2 as sores on the oral cavity.
Herpes outbreaks generally occur when there is suppression in the individual’s immune system.  This can come by the assault of another infection or by what is extremely common, measures of stress; emotional or physical.
The conventional approach to controlling the herpes virus is through oral medications such Zovirax, Valtrex, and Famvir.  Where these medications can be effective in symptom management by suppressing the viral activity, they do not eradicate the virus from the system.
So let us take a look at how the herpes virus is designed and what natural therapies can do.  Herpes simplex is considered to be a lipid coated virus.  This means that there is a shield around the virus to protect it from destruction.
Unrefined, organic coconut oil rich in lauric acid has the ability to strip off the lipid coating on virus.  We usually recommend our clients to take one tablespoonful daily.  For this we are fans of the Coconut oil from Premier Research Laboratories.
Olive leaf extract is a natural product that has shown to support the immune system while at the same time interrupting the replication of the virus. Olive leaf renders the virus unable to reproduce, thus may eradicate it from the system.  Due to the fact that it is not an immediate kill, results do not happing overnight, though very effective none the less.  An average dose of Olive leaf extract is 500 mg three times daily.  Our choice for olive leaf extract is a product we have called Immune Complex.
Finally, probably one of the most important nutrients for our overall health plays a very important role, Betaine HCL.  This should be taking with HCL Activator generally in a 2:1 ratio (i.e.- 2 betaines:1 activator) after meals.
We often implement the above three therapies together for the coconut oil will expose the virus to the actions of the olive leaf.
Aside from the above two examples which we find very effective, it is important to mention that L-lysine is commonly used in both the prevention and treatment of the herpes virus.  L-lysine is an amino acid with a dosage of 500 mg daily for prevention of outbreak and as high as 1000 to 6000 mg’s for an active outbreak.
One should not take supplements or eat foods with large amounts of L-Arginine due to the fact that L-Arginine can inhibit the action of L-Lysine.  Foods containing high amounts of L-Lysine are peanuts, soybeans, red wine, processed cheeses, nuts, popcorn, corn, coconut and chocolate.
