Insurance Companies Doing the Work of the FDA at the Pressure of Big Pharma?
So, today I got two calls from great pharmacy customers of ours. Both calls were in response to letters they got from their insurance company.
I dont want to say the name of the insurance company, well… let me say that it rymes with Mr. Derc Dedco.
So the letter said that they will not be reimbursing for estriol, one of the 3 main estrogens that the body naturally makes. They said that estriol is a weak estrogen and has not been to be safe or effective by the FDA.
The FDA’s track record is not something that we should hang our health on. There are a multitude of examples where their claims on safety have failed the public.
As I mentioned there are 3 main estrogens.
Estradiol is still being paid for because it is in patented drugs that have most likely paid millions to the FDA for such approval.
Estrone is ok in the eyes of Dirk Redco, and who knows why because we know this is the one that most likely can metabolize into carcionogenic metabolites. Oh yeah, hydroxy equine estrone is in premarin, aka horse urine in a tablet that is approved by the FDA and has been implicated in a host of ill health issues from the Womens Health Initiative in 2001.
Estriol, as mentioned above, is not paid for. Estriol is know as the “protective” estrongen. Where we know any estrogen can cause growth of tissue when not properly balanced by progesterone and adequate detoxification, it can displace estradiol, a much more powerful, thus proliferative (can cause excessive tissue growth), and is approved by the FDA.
And in the end, should we only utilize what are insurance companies will pay for? I think not.
