Energy & Stamina…or lack there of

Greetings and HAPPY March!  Today being the first of March has nothing to do with this article, although it reminds me we are that much closer to warmer weather and each and every day is brighter than the day before…that I like.

Ok, so what I would like to talk about is one of the biggest issues I come across every day with clients and customers… lack of energy and stamina.  Sometimes I pose the question, “Do you remember the last time you felt really great?” and the reply is something to the effect of “No, I don’t” or “I never really thought about it.”  And often times the culprit is lack of energy.

Lack of energy can often be described as being unmotivated, apathetic, aloof, or just plain exhausted.  Optimally we would have enough energy to get us up in the morning, without the need to peel ourselves out of bed, a constant flow to carry us throughout the day without being chaotic or uncontrollable, and then gently let us down to relax in the evening to a sufficient night of rest and sleep.

This is often not the case.

The reason for lack of energy can be many.  It might be physical in nature, such as an under-active thyroid gland, or maybe adrenal exhaustion.

I have spoken about the thyroid extensively in previous articles, so for now just keep in mind, if everything else is being addressed, and exhaustion still ensues, let’s take a deeper look at that thyroid.  Certain toxicities or nutritional deficiencies are often not addressed that might be the missing link to thyroid health, or even an underlying, undiagnosed infection.

Like the rest of our hormonal system, the adrenal glands can become exhausted, worn out.  And ever more so in this day and age where we tend to be over-committed, over-stimulated, and just plain stressed-out!  We have been designed to address stress in a fight or flight response where stressors tend to go away to allow us to renew and rebuild.  Kind of like a tiger chasing us in the jungle as we are foraging for food.  All too often these days, that tiger seems to be constantly chasing us, thus not allowing that renewal time.

Parasitic infections are almost synonymous with lack of energy.   And they are way more common than often addressed.  The same goes with related issues of chronic fatigue syndrome or even fibromyalgia where low grade infections of some sort might be present.  Lymes disease is also very big, and proving to be more common than our current medical system recognizes.

Lack of sleep is huge and I will be addressing this in an up and coming article.  Actually, I believe March is National Sleep month, so it will be very apropos.  Many of us are not getting the sleep we need to renew and repair ourselves.

I just read an article that with the state of economy, sleep problems are on the rise, so keep your eyes open (not at night though…you should be sleeping) you will probably be seeing much more of this in the future.

Next week I will be addressing what you can do if you are suffering from lack of energy, some healthy tips that might not give you more time to your day, but have been well proven to provide more energy.
